Today is an exciting day for The PATH Academy as legendary coach Adam Turkel comes out of retirement to take on the head football coaching position. Coach Turkel will bring 25+ years of coaching and organizing experience to the Pirates that will help bolster the program into the future.

PATH Academy owner TJ Malave had this to say

“ I’m very excited to welcome Coach Turk to the PATH Family. We had a very short list of candidates and we definitely got the coach we wanted. I was already familiar with Coach Turk but after our interview there was no doubt that this was the direction we wanted to go. Not only does he bring decades of experience and winning football to the program, his overall values aligned exactly with ours which was the most important. The scope of The PATH Academy has grown tremendously and it was time to bring in more leadership to solidify our program as well as allow me to handle the continued expansion of my ownership role. We are all very excited for the future!”

Coach Adam “Turk” Turkel is a Brooklyn native whom has been in football since he was a young child. He began coaching in 1994 with the Brooklyn Bears as a DC and quickly began his head coaching career the following season. He coached notable minor league teams including the NY Predators, Philadelphia Braves, and Brooklyn Mariners.

After many years as a minor league head coach, Adam got his first professional head coaching job in 2004 when he replaced former NY Giant Perry Williams as Head Coach of the New Jersey Xtreme (NIFL) 5 games into the campaign.

Coach Turkel is also a notable administrator having served as NAFL commissioner for 3 seasons, and RAFL commissioner for an additional 4. Coach Turkel was inducted into the Minor League football News Hall of Fame in 2007 for his role in the growth of the NAFL which at the time expanded to the largest single entity football league in North America.

Other noted indoor coaching jobs for coach Turk are the New Jersey Bulldawgs (IGL), Philadelphia Pro Stars (IND), as well as serving as the General Manager of the Trenton Freedom at its inception.

Coach Turk had announced he was retired following the 2018 Brooklyn Mariners season.

When asked why he returned to coaching at PATH, Coach Turk stated

“Because I believe in Tomas’ vision and the course set for the entire PATH organization. I see the seeds of a great program looking to help our youth and give them better opportunities in life as well as sports. And that’s something I want to help grow”.

The future looks bright for the PATH Academy program. There is a lot of work to be done but with the solid consistent leadership being brought in the sky is the limit!
