Coming into the 2020 season there are a few position groups that have been placed as priorities for improvement. While there is ample competition at the skills position, it's the trenches that must be addressed. Specific effort has been spent cultivating the offensive line. With new recruits and the addition of an offensive line coach, the building blocks of success are being laid one rep at a time. It is no secret that in football at any level having a solid front 5 is at the heart of any solid offense. PATH Academy will return 4 starters from last season, one of which was in his rookie campaign. The Pirate staff is looking to build on the current in house talent with a few key prospects to complete the group.
Coach Malave had this to say:
"Without a doubt one of our top priorities is building out this offensive line. We have some great guys returning in house as well as some new recruits ready to make a mark in the trenches. You can have the greatest most talented skill players, but without a consistent offensive line the offense can and will become a liability. The other part that is tricky about our level is that you have to over recruit the position group in order to ensure your numbers. It's not an easy thing to do but that doesn't make it impossible. Teams that win find solutions and we are striving to become a purely solution oriented team. You have to be willing to take a step back and ask what we can do better individually and as an organization. We have some talented guys on the roster already so our cupboard isn't bare by any means but there is room for growth and the need to strive for consistency. "
The spring season begins in 6 weeks and the Pirates are in full swing preparing. Stay tuned for more updates from the PATH Times.
